  • You’re okay with steeper sections (Barranco Wall is fun, not technical)

Day by Day

Day by Day

Day 1 – Machame Gate - Machame Camp

  • Elevation: 1,800m → 3,000m

  • Time: 5–7 hours

  • Habitat: Rainforest

You begin your journey through lush rainforest, with towering trees and rich biodiversity. The trail is steady and immersive — a perfect introduction to the climb.

Day 2 – Machame Camp to Shira Camp

  • Elevation: 3,000m → 3,840m

  • Time: 4–6 hours

 

The forest fades into moorland as the landscape opens up. You’ll begin to feel the altitude as Kilimanjaro reveals its dramatic scale.

Day 3 – Shira Camp to Barranco Camp (via Lava Tower)

  • Elevation: 3,840m → 4,630m → 3,960m

  • Time: 6–8 hours

A key acclimatization day. You climb high to Lava Tower, 4,690m, before descending to Barranco Camp – improving your body’s adaptation to altitude.

Day 4 – Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

  • Elevation: 3,960m → 4,035m

  • Time: 4–5 hours

You’ll tackle the famous Barranco Wall — a fun and rewarding scramble with incredible views.

Day 5 – Karanga - Barafu Camp

  • Elevation: 4,035m → 4,640m

  • Time: 4–5 hours

 

A shorter day to prepare for your summit push. Early dinner and rest are essential.

Day 6 – Summit Day (Uhuru Peak)

  • Elevation: 4,640m → 5,895m → 3,100m

  • Time: 10–14 hours

Your summit attempt begins at midnight. Reaching Uhuru Peak at sunrise is an unforgettable moment — standing at the highest point in Africa.

Day 7 – Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

  • Elevation: 3,100m → 1,800m

  • Time: 3–4 hours

A gentle descent through the rainforest as you complete your journey.
