How Much Does a Tanzania Family Safari Cost? (2026–27 Guide)

What a private Tanzania family safari really costs: per-day rates by comfort level, child discounts, what is included, and how to make the most of your budget.

How Much Does a Tanzania Family Safari Cost? (2026–27 Guide)

A private Tanzania family safari typically starts from about US$10,500 for two adults and two children over 10 days at Classic level, around US$13,500 at Mid-Luxury and around US$21,000 at Luxury. Children travel at 25–50% off the adult rate depending on their age, and the final price depends on your dates, lodges, the parks you visit and whether you add Zanzibar.

This guide explains exactly what goes into the price of a Tanzania family safari, what is included, and how to get the most from your budget. The figures come from the private family safaris our own team plans and guides from Arusha.

Tanzania family safari prices at a glance

Our prices are quoted per adult, sharing, per day. Children then receive 25–50% off the adult rate, depending on their age. As a guide, here is what a 10-day private family safari costs for two adults and two children, with both children at 50% off:

Comfort level

Per adult, per day

10 days, 2 adults + 2 children

Classic

from US$350

from US$10,500

Mid-Luxury

from US$450

from US$13,500

Luxury

from US$700

from US$21,000

The calculation is simple: two children at 50% off count as one adult, so the family pays the equivalent of three adult rates per day. For a 10-day Mid-Luxury safari that is US$450 × 3 × 10 = US$13,500.

What changes the price of a family safari

1. Comfort level

This is the biggest single factor. Classic lodges and camps are comfortable and well run; Mid-Luxury adds more space, better locations and pools; Luxury brings exceptional settings, service and family suites. Many families mix levels, for example a special first night at Giraffe Manor Tanzania near Arusha, then Classic or Mid-Luxury camps in the parks.

2. Your children's ages

Children travel at 25–50% off the adult rate depending on their age. Some lodges also have their own child policies and family rooms, which we match to your family when choosing where you stay.

3. When you travel

The most popular family months, the July–August school holidays and Christmas and New Year, carry higher lodge rates and book up early. Travelling in quieter months can lower the cost, and we will tell you honestly whether the timing works for the wildlife you want to see.

4. Length and route

More days cost more, but a slower pace usually suits children better. Fewer, longer stays mean less time in the vehicle and more time enjoying each place.

5. Flying versus driving

Domestic flights to the Serengeti save long drives, which many parents value with younger children, but they add to the cost. We can combine both: drive between the closer parks, then fly back to Arusha at the end.

6. Adding Zanzibar

A few nights on the beach after safari is a favourite with families. Combined trips such as our 10-Day Safari & Zanzibar include the flight to the island and a family-friendly beach stay.

How to get the most from your budget

  • Mix comfort levels: spend more where it matters most to your family, and less elsewhere.

  • Choose fewer parks, for longer: less driving and better value per day.

  • Book early for school holidays, when the best family rooms go first.

  • Ask us about quieter travel months that still suit your plans.

Why a private safari makes sense for families

With your own vehicle and guide, the day runs at your family's pace. You stop when the children need a break, linger at a sighting they love, and head back to the lodge when energy runs low. There are no other guests to fit around, and your guide adapts each day to what is working for your children.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Tanzania family safari cost per person?

Our family itineraries start from about US$3,750 to US$4,900 per person, depending on the route and length. The total for your family depends on your children's ages, comfort level and travel dates.

Do children pay less on safari in Tanzania?

Yes. Children travel at 25–50% off the adult rate with Emnel, depending on their age, and lodges often have their own family rates and rooms.

Are park fees included in the price?

Yes. National park and conservation fees for your itinerary are included in your quote.

Is a private safari more expensive than a group tour?

Usually, yes. But for families the private vehicle, flexible pace and a guide focused only on your children make a real difference, and the cost is shared across the whole family.
